Though I was not born here, I grew up in Colorado with parents that fully embraced all that Colorado had to offer. My father got me into fishing early on but I got my family into fly fishing when I watched a pod of feeding cutthroat in a crystal clear creek. After many futile attempts to trick them with my spinning lures, I knew they were still eating something, I just didn't know anything about it yet. Shortly after that, my addiction to fly tying began when, as a teenager, my father would take me to the local recreation/community center for a weekly fly tying class.

I have been tying flies for myself, my family and close circle of friends for more than 30 years. My passion for fly tying and fly fishing has grown so much in the last decade that sharing this passion through demonstrating fly tying seemed the logical next step. As a long-time member of Trout Unlimited, I began sharing my fly tying passion at Chapter meetings. During this time, I was fortunate enough to be taken under the wing of Umpqua Signature Fly Tyer Phil Iwane, creator of successful flies like the No Mercy Midge and the Iwan-e-dun. I have tied alongside Phil at events like the Orvis Fly Tying Fanatics Fest and been a featured fly tyer at the Orvis fly tying series, Hook & Hackle. I have also participated at other events like the Rocky Mountain Flycasters Trout Fishing Expo and the West Denver Fly Tying Cinic.

I have been a resident of Colorado for more than 50 years and now live in southern Littleton with my favorite fly fishing partner, my wife Shannon. my proximity to the legendary South Platte allows me to consider it my home water, and it regularly reminds me to be more adaptable when confronted with the many and constantly changing variables involved in successful fly fishing. I have been an active member of the Cutthroat Chapter of Trout Unlimited Board of Directors for more than 15 years, mostly managing the Chapter’s website. When I’m not working in IT maintaining laptops, you can find me tying flies, fly fishing, hiking, off-roading or otherwise taking advantage of all that the Colorado outdoors has to offer.
